FOUNTAIN, COLO. -- Fountain police have confirmed a 3-year-old accidentally shot himself Wednesday.
The call came in around 8 this morning by a neighbor.
It happened in the 200 block of Turf Trail Place.
Police say, the 3-year-old found a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the master bedroom and accidentally shot his own foot.
His injuries are not life-threatening. He was in surgery for most of the day. Right now, he's in stable condition.
The child's mom was home at the time, but didn't see it happen. The child's dad was at work on Fort Carson.
The investigation is still ongoing.
