BOULDER, COLO. (AP) -- Boulder County's top prosecutor says he doesn't expect to decide until at least Friday whether charges should be filed over an elk killed by a police officer.

The Daily Camera reports (http://bit.ly/10d0rKg) District Attorney Stan Garnett met with Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials on Tuesday and said the investigation is still ongoing.

Boulder police have said an on-duty officer who said the elk looked like it needed to be put down shot the animal Jan. 1, and an off-duty officer took it to be processed for meat. Officers Sam Carter and Brent Curnow, who has a taxidermy website and had called in sick the night the elk died, are on paid leave pending results of an internal investigation.

Hunting isn't allowed in city limits.
