SOUTHERN COLORADO -- A transmitter problem that left thousands without a signal on FOX21 for about 24 hours was caused by a skunk.

FOX21 News engineers said a skunk got into the transmitter room at the top of Cheyenne Mountain. The skunk burned itself on the equipment in the room and reacted by spraying the transmitter, causing the breaker to trip.

The transmitter automatically shuts down when it gets wet to prevent any electrical shortages.

The transmitter went out about 8 p.m. Sunday and was restored shortly after 8 p.m. Monday. The engineers worked all day and night to correct the problem.

The issue impacted customers who watch FOX21 on Dish, DirecTV and over the air via an antenna. Comcast customers were not affected.

SOCO CW was also out on the digital channel during the outage.

FOX21 will re-air Monday's episode of Bones at a later time. When we know the date and time, we will update this story as well as post it on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

We want to thank everybody for their patience and understanding throughout this process.
