SALIDA, COLO. -- Officials had to transfer 72 large animals to smaller livestock trailers Monday afternoon after the driver tipped the trailer while going around a curve on Highway 50.

According to Colorado State troopers, 55-year-old Walter James was driving a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a cattle hauler trailer when he tipped it while driving east on the highway about two miles east of Salida.

Troopers said James went too fast around a curve and went off the right side of the highway around 2:10 p.m.

The highway was closed in both directions for about an hour and a half while crews worked to unload the 72 cattle and transfer them to other trailers.

James, a Manzanola, Colo. resident, was not hurt in the crash.
