COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- You may have seen him around town: A cowboy with "YES to Amendment 64" signs strapped to his horse.

He's covered street corners throughout Colorado Springs from Constitution to Powers to downtown to the airport.

But Howard "Cowboy" Wooldridge has a message to share.

"Amendment 64 is good legislation that will help our children, by arresting the bad guys who hurt them, take away the job option for them to sell marijuana in the first place," he said, "Plus, it will free up literally hundreds of thousands of hours in colorado to chase the deadly drunk driver and other threats."

And why the horse, you might ask?

"Misty is here symbolizing "horse-sense" and freedom, and that's part of this issue," he explained, "on a practical note.. I'm old. I need a chair!"

This attention-grabbing pair came from Washington D.C. to tell Coloradans they believe Amendment 64 will help police prioritize.

"The war on drugs has been the most destructive, dysfunctional and immoral policy since slavery and Jim Crowe. It's gotta go," Wooldridge said.

Howard Wooldridge was a police officer for 18 years, then a police detective for 3, and now he's getting to the bottom of why Congress won't legalize drugs. He's taken on the issue of drug policy with "Citizens Opposing Prohibition."

"Dealing with the United States Congress is extremely frustrating. So it has been 6 long years trying to bring some "horse-sense" to the issue. So far we've had some success, but it's gonna take a couple more years."

Misty and Wooldridge are heading back to D.C. Monday for more lobbying. Wooldridge said his 3 weeks in Colorado Springs felt successful, and he hopes to have brought some people to be more aware of the issues on their ballots.
