COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- There's nothing scary about this year's Halloween's consumer trends with 7 in 10 Americans spending an average of $79.82 on costumes and candy, up from $72.31 last year.

"This is the first time we've ever got ready for Halloween, I'll tell ya, we've never done that before," Paul Tidemann, a Colorado Springs resident said.

The folks at Zeezo's are seeing consumer spending going up with people investing in looking great and having fun.

Halloween makes up 25 percent of Zeezo's annual budget, so the year-round costume shop pays close attention to customer service and pricing.

"We listen to what people want, what they like about a certain item, what they don't like. We try to pay attention to price point and have something for everyone," Jessica Modeer, Vice President of Zeezo's said.

The boost in business also includes corporate sales and large parties with people looking for that killer costume and creepy home decoration.

"We've collected Halloween props and paraphernalia for years, so our house is pretty decorated. We have guys like this in our house, lights and we try to make it a little bit of a spook house," Shawn Mehl, a Colorado Springs resident said.

The heated presidential election has spooked people away from buying presidential masks.

The always popular costume has turned into a bust with only a couple making it off the store shelves.
