CENTENNIAL, COLO. (AP) -- The father of a man accused of killing and dismembering his mother says his son has a history of mental illness.
Ari Liggett is being held without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder. Arapahoe County sheriff's officials arrested him near his home Wednesday after he ran from a vehicle that had Beverly Liggett's body in the back seat.
Court records say a search of the family's home found potassium cyanide, traces of blood, and a saw in the dishwasher.
Court records say Liggett allegedly told investigators he had found his mother dead, thought she committed suicide, panicked and put her body in a freezer. He says he recently learned he wasn't in his mother's will.
Ronald Liggett tells KUSA-TV in Denver his son is mentally ill.
