COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The latest in a steady string of crimes at a problem-filled Colorado Springs motel was a robbery Sunday afternoon.
According to Colorado Springs Police officers, a man with a gun walked into the Chief Motel on South Nevada Avenue with a gun around 4:20 p.m. and demanded money. He gave the attendant a bag to put the money in, then left on foot.
Officers checked the area but couldn't find him.
The robbery is the latest in a string of problems at the motel that goes back several years. In January 2011, the Fire Department found a body in one of the rooms while putting out a mattress fire. In September of that year, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies were trying to serve a warrant in the parking lot when a woman ran over a deputy's foot. That led to the deputy firing a shot that killed a woman.
In November, officers arrested a man at the motel who had robbed a liquor store.
In August of this year, officers arrested two people for murder following a death at the motel.
