COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police have announced Thursday a $100,000 reward for anyone who gives a tip leading to the arrest of the person responsible for starting the Waldo Canyon Fire.
The money was given to the police department by an anonymous donor.
Investigators confirmed earlier this month the wildfire, which was Colorado's most destructive ever, was started by a human, but they don't know if it was accidental or intentional. They have asked the public to come forward with any information they may know.
The fire burned 346 homes in northwest Colorado Springs June 26 and destroyed more than 18,000 acres of land.
It started near the Waldo Canyon Loop, a popular hiking trail off Highway 24 west of Manitou Springs.
The only number to call to leave a tip that could get you the reward is (719) 385-2222. Officers said you must leave a name and number to be eligible for the reward.
Officers are advising the public to not confuse this reward with the reward offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspects who burglarized homes and cars in the area, as they are separate rewards.
