COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said they arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after he robbed three banks and a sporting goods store within a few minutes of each other.
According to officers, 26-year-old David Anderson entered the Big Five Sporting Goods store on West Uintah Street around 1:09 p.m. with a shotgun and tried to get another gun. He fired the gun in the store and struggled with an employee who tried disarming him before he eventually left while making suicidal thoughts.
About 20 minutes later, Anderson robbed the Adams Bank on East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard. Three minutes after that, he tried robbing the UMB Bank across the street but was stopped by the security guard, who said Anderson poured gasoline on the ground outside but did not light it.
A few minutes later, officers got calls that someone, who turned out to be Anderson, was throwing money out of his car window.
A few minutes after those calls, Anderson robbed the Chase Bank on North Tejon Street, leaving in the same car.He then went to the Antlers Hotel and began handing out money before being arrested outside.
Anderson will be charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of attempted aggravated robbery.
Officers found the car with a gun inside. They are asking anyone who picked up any money to return it to police so they can get it back to the banks.
