COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Southern Colorado officials held a news conference Wednesday about the cause Waldo Canyon Fire.

It has been almost three months since the wildfire swept into Colorado Springs.

"I am going to be honest and upfront, we do not have any life shattering news to report to you," Barbara Miller with the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

Authorities with the task force assigned to investigate said they know for certain the fire was human caused, but added they do not know if it was accidental or intentional.

In the hours and days following the June fire, the task force was assembled to investigate the cause.

In that time, some answers have been uncovered.

"We do know specifically the fire started within three miles of the Waldo Canyon Trailhead off Highway 24," CSPD Lt. Adrian Vasquez said. "That is as specific as we are going to get in terms of origin."

Vasquez said the task force has not identified a person of interest.

"We do need assistance still, somebody out there knows very specifically how this first started," Vasquez said. "Whether it be accidental or intentional, they are aware of it, at least one person is."

To date, the task force has followed up on more than 100 high priority tips, and now has approximately 250 low priority tips to look into.

"We still have a lot of people we need to talk to, so I would not say we are at a standstill," Vasquez said. "We need more information."

If you have any additional tips for investigators, you can call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
