COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The body found in a car on fire near the top of Pikes Peak Sunday was so badly burned, officers can't even tell the gender, let alone determine who it was.
A car caught fire around 6:16 p.m. Sunday near the summit of America's Mountain on Pikes Peak Highway when Colorado Springs Police officers said it went off the road and up an embankment.
Crews were on scene until well after 2 a.m. putting out the fire and clearing the scene.
Officers also can't determine the exact make or model of the car yet but said it may be a 4-door Subaru with a black roof. They said the person who died was the only one in the car.
Officers are asking anyone with information on a family member or friend who may have been on Pikes Peak Highway Sunday to call them at (719) 444-7000.
