COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Keeping cool in the hot summer sun means the YMCA is exceeding expectations.

More than 60,000 people jumped into the deep end over the past 12 weeks, that's 20,000 more than what the YMCA had expected.

The Y agreed to operate the city owned pools after they became a drain on the budget.

"Pretty much as soon as we moved here we heard the news that they were going to be closed so I was really glad that the YMCA took it over, they did a great job," Jennifer Neric, a Colorado Springs mom said.

Neric is just one of the thousands of mom's who've spent some time poolisde at Wilson Ranch, which despite being closed during the Waldo Canyon Fire, still saw more than 16,000 people.

The new agreement also means new jobs to the area.

"Employed about a 125 staff this summer for all three outdoor centers," oyd Williams, YMCA

Overall, the first year of a five-year agreement has been a huge summer success as the community keeps cool in city pools.
