PUEBLO, COLO. (AP) -- The Pueblo City Council is considering a proposal that would let city employees have same-sex domestic partners added to their insurance and other benefits.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the City Council voted Monday to bring the proposed ordinance back for a second reading and public hearing in two weeks.

It was proposed by Councilwoman Sandy Daff and Councilman Steve Nawrocki.

City human resources director Marisa Walker says cities such as Arvada and Lakewood offer the benefits, but others, including Colorado Springs, do not. She says national statistics indicate that allowing domestic partners to qualify for city benefits could increase city costs by about 1 percent.
