SOUTHERN COLORADO -- A man accused of kidnapping a woman is behind bars after a near-40 mile chase that spanned two counties and forced troopers to intentionally crash into the man's truck.

Colorado State troopers said the chase began around 6:29 p.m. Monday when 38-year-old Jason Leinweber, a prison escapee, reportedly kidnapped a 38-year-old Colorado Springs resident.

A police officer from Campo spotted Leinweber's truck on Highway 287 near Springfield after an alert was put out, but Leinweber did not stop.

The chase, which exceeded speeds of 100 mph, went north on 287. Twice troopers used "Stop Sticks" to try to deflate Leinweber's truck tires, but he kept driving even after all four tires were deflated.

About six miles south of Lamar, troopers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, which is the process of gently bumping a suspect car until it stops or is forced to stop.

Troopers then arrested Leinweber on charges of kidnapping, vehicular eluding, reckless endangerment, domestic violence and other charges.

The woman was not hurt, and troopers did not say how she was connected to Leinweber.

Six agencies responded to help with the chase, and no law enforcement officials were injured. The trooper's car had minor damage from bumping Leinweber's truck.
