COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Residents of the once evacuated Pleasant Valley subdivision in Colorado Springs gave firefighters a roaring ovation Friday morning during their shift change as some came down from the foothills while others prepared to go into the Waldo Canyon Fire.

Firefighters change shifts twice a day, and community members have made it a daily ritual to go support them. They line 31st Street armed with signs, American flags and applause.

The community trying to inspire hope is growing each day. Shift changes take place at 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Watch the video above to see what the community is doing to support the firefighters.
