DENVER (AP) -- A group opposing the artist Christo's Over the River project is telling Colorado transportation officials the project is dangerous, and the heavy equipment needed to construct it will obstruct traffic.

Christo plans to suspend huge fabric panels over portions of the Arkansas River along U.S. 50. It could be ready for two-week display by August 2015, if it receives the remaining approvals that it needs.

The Denver Post reports that at a meeting Thursday of the state Transportation Commission, a letter outlining concerns of the group Rags Over the Arkansas River, or ROAR, was read aloud. Colorado Department of Transportation chief engineer

Tim Harris said the project will be carefully reviewed.

Over the River spokesman Miles Graham says Christo's team is taking several steps to mitigate its impacts.
