PARK COUNTY, COLO. -- The latest wildfire burning in Park County has grown to nearly 1,000 acres in about 24 hours.

U.S. Forest Service officials said the Springer Fire burning about five miles south of Lake George is 970 acres, and windy conditions are pushing it east.

The fire, which started Sunday around noon, has forced evacuations in the Echo Valley, Circle C and Beaver Ranch areas.\

There is still no containment of the fire, and Monday's temperatures are near record-highs. About 400 firefighters are working to fight it.

This is the third wildfire to start in Park County in eight days.

Summit Elementary in Divide and Woodland Park High School are both being used by the Red Cross to house evacuees.

The Kit Carson Riding Club in Black Forest has volunteered to house horses if needed. Anyone needing to move a horse can call (719) 332-1474. The club is located in the 6700 block of Cowpoke Road, about three blocks north of Woodmen Road off Black Forest Road.

They also housed horses during the Hayman Fire 10 years ago.
