PARK COUNTY, COLO. -- U.S. Forest Service officials said firefighters are hoping to have the latest wildfire burning in Park County contained by Friday night.

The Arkansas fire has burned about 30 acres in an area two miles west of Lake George just south of Highway 24 in Park County.

The fire, which is burning on Colorado state land and Pike National Forest land, is 70 percent contained. Officials said favorable weather conditions Thursday and Friday have helped firefighters make significant progress. If the weather holds, the fire could be full contained by 8 p.m.

About 100 firefighters and two helicopters are currently battling the fire. Evacuation orders have been lifted, but officials are still telling residents to be on alert.

The fire was caused by a lightning strike Thursday morning, just one day after a fire just west of the area burned about 70 acres.
