COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach is expected to ask City Council to terminate the bus service from Colorado Springs to Denver due to budget concerns.

On his website, Bach states that the operating budget for Front Range Express (FREX), the busses that service the Springs, El Paso County, Castle Rock and Denver, is $800,000 more than its revenue in 2012.

Bach wrote letters to the Regional Transportation District in Denver, Mayor Paul Donahue of Castle Rock and El Paso County Commissioners Chairwoman Amy Lathen stating his concerns. Bach said Colorado Springs is absorbing too much of the cost and said projected costs are forcing the city to focus on local transit services.

Bach acknowledges the service has been valuable but said it cannot continue under the current budget. He is encouraging current FREX riders to contact the city about participating in carpool matching and vanpool programs.

If the council votes to cut the service, the last day of FREX will be Aug. 31.
