Elderly man dies in crash after running stop sign

PUEBLO WEST, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies said an 84-year-old man died Sunday morning after running a stop sign before being t-boned by a Jeep.

According to witnesses, the elderly man was driving northbound on Hahn's Peak Avenue and didn't stop at the stop sign at Joe Martinez Boulevard. A 61-year-old woman driving the Jeep westbound on Joe Martinez couldn't avoid the man and t-boned him.

Pueblo West fire crews tried to save the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman and her two passengers in the Jeep were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Deputies said speed and alcohol were likely not factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
