COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 officials spent Wednesday warning people about a man who has been lurking nearby trying to pick students up from school.
But what was originally thought to be one individual male is now believed to be three college-aged students.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, a 16-year-old boy was approached by the white van while jogging near Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School and the Skyway neighborhood.
The teen said the people inside the van tried to "offer him a ride" home in an attempt to lure him in.
But unlike like most "stranger danger" reports, this incident happened more than a month ago, on March 21. CSPD officials said this incident was brought to their and District 12's attention.
"The school sat down in a meeting and said, 'How do we want to address this?' They thought, air on the side of caution and share it with parents," Barbara Miller, spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Police Department, said.
District officials are reminding parents to talk with their kids about what to do with strangers because of the warmer weather and the increase in outdoor activities.
Several Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School parents told us they do not let their children walk home because of troubling scenarios like this.
"I just like to know where she is at all times, and when she leaves the school and takes a slight walk it's tough to know where she is between here and there," Klaus Dimmler, a D-12 parent said.
Officers have not released any other information about these incidents and have no description of the suspect.
