COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- As if they need an excuse to hit the links, the beautiful Colorado weather has golfers out swinging toward the greens.

Thanks to a mild winter and warm spring, more golfers are teeing of at the Patty Jewett Golf Course this year than they did the year before.

"Every month has pretty much been up from where it was last year and even the year before that," Patrick Miller, assistant golf pro at Patty Jewett, said Saturday. "If it's a day like this, it's pretty much packed all day."

Golfers like Matt Thompson can't get enough of the sunshine either.

"We've been out here a couple times a month," Thompson said, "but as it gets warmer we'll probably come out a couple times a week."

Thompson's friend, Mike Tinkey, couldn't agree more.

"We just want to enjoy as much as we can while we can," he said. "We probably would prefer it a little cooler, but we enjoy the sun nonetheless."

As the spring time temperatures rise so do the number of tee times golfers sign up for.

"Not just at Patty Jewett," Miller said, "but it's probably increasing play everywhere."

Miller said, on average, nearly 400 golfers take to the course every day. And as play increases so does the course's revenue which is helpful for future projects.

"The extra revenue this year will probably go to benefit the budget for next year for maintenance and improvements that they've been wanting to do," he said.

But come rain or come shine, golfers like Thompson will find any reason to get on the green.

"Like the mailman," Thompson said, "rain, snow, sleet, we're out here."
