COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A 17-year-old boy who was shot late Monday night after telling the shooter he didn't have a cigarette is recovering Tuesday.
Colorado Springs Police officers said two people drove the boy to the hospital around 11:21 p.m. According to officers, a man approached the boy in the 1100 block of Verde Drive and asked him if he had a cigarette. When the boy said no, the man pulled out a gun and shot him as he began to run away.
The boy said the shooter is a white man about 6'1" - 6'2" and has a tall, thin build. He has a light brown-colored goatee and was wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt, shorts and tennis shoes.
The boy was treated at Memorial Hospital and released.
Officers interviewed the two males who dropped the boy off and released them. They continue to search for the suspect.
