COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- An alert witness helped Colorado Springs Police officers thwart a kidnapping attempt in a Safeway parking lot Tuesday night.
Officers said they arrived at the store in the 1100 block of North Circle Drive after a witness called claiming a man had tried to push a woman into his car.
Officers were able to find the couple a short time late in a nearby park.
They said the couple had just broken up and the suspect, 35-year-old Steven Hearn, had been hitting the woman and driving her around against her will for more than an hour.
She had finally jumped out of the car in the store's parking lot.
Officers arrested Hearn and charged him with second degree kidnapping, third degree assault and harassment.
