PUEBLO COUNTY, COLO. -- Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies said a 7-year-old boy died Sunday while hiking with his family.
According to deputies, the boy was hiking with his family in the 6900 block of Broadacre Road in the county around 12:29 p.m. when a 3-4 foot boulder came loose from a small canyon, rolling into the boy and trapping him between two boulders.
People close with the boy said he is Colorado Springs resident Lile Mullins, who was hiking with cousins near his grandmother's house in Avondale. Deputies have not confirmed his identity.
Deputies said the family and rescue teams tried to rescue him but stopped the effort after realizing he was dead.
Officials are calling it a tragic accident and don't believe there are any signs that say otherwise.
