COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Elizabeth Smart made a stop in Southern Colorado Saturday.

She spoke about her abduction and new "Elizabeth Smart Foundation."

Smart was just 14 years old when she was kidnapped at knifepoint and held captive in Utah for nine months.

Recently she has become an activist for young people dealing with traumatic events.

"When I came home from being kidnapped my mom gave me a piece of advice, and it is the best piece of advice I have ever been given. "She said 'What this man has done to you is so terrible there just are no words to describe,'" Smart said. "Nine months of your life you will never get back, do not give him anymore. The best punishment is to be happy."

Smart was in Colorado Springs to support Safe Passage, a local children's advocacy center.
