COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- A pit bull and a boxer were shot in Colorado Springs Thursday afternoon after allegedly attacking another dog.
It happened on Portrait Place and Crimson Circle, near Oro Blanco Drive and North Carefree Circle.
Officials said the pit bull was killed, and the boxer ran away.
According to Colorado Springs Police officers, the man who shot the dogs had just broken up a fight between them and his German Shepherd.
Later, he saw the same dogs attacking other dogs that were being walked by a woman.
Officials said the man ran out with a gun and fired when he couldn't separate the dogs.
Officers said the shooting was justified, and the man had no other option.
The owners of the pit bull and boxer have been notified and could be ticketed by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
This is the second case of a dog attack this week in the county. On Sunday, a pit bull bit a baby in the face and was later put down at the request of the owner.
