COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Officials with Bass Pro Shops have announced the popular outdoor store will be coming to Colorado Springs.
According to a statement released this week, the company has signed a letter of intent to be a part of the new 200 acre Copper Ridge development at mile marker 156 of I-25 in the northern part of the city.
Officials said the new store will create about 250 additional jobs for the city.
The North Gate Boulevard investment will provide access to the Bass Pro Shops from the Air Force Academy, I-25 and Highway 83.
"We are very excited to bring Bass Pro Shops to Colorado Springs and be part of this major development,” Johnny Morris, Founder of Bass Pro Shops, said in the statement. "The area’s long history of great fishing and hunting traditions, along with this highly visible and accessible location make it the perfect place to allow us to better serve our many customers and all the outdoor enthusiasts that visit and live in this beautiful part of the country."
Officials with Colorado's Office of Economic Development said the outdoors accounts for about 107,000 jobs in the state.
El Paso County Commissioners are also excited about tax revenues.
“It is great to see a major anchor store coming to Colorado Springs," El Paso County Commissioner Darryl Glenn said. "This will keep tax revenues in El Paso County and provide a new local retail option for shoppers in the Pikes Peak region.”
Experts estimate about 4,000 jobs will be created when the Copper Ridge development is complete and all stores are in place.
“We look forward to welcoming Bass Pro Shops to our community and thank them for employing our citizens,” Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach said.
Construction is set to begin in April, and the store will open in the summer of 2013.
