Suspect in fatal crash turns himself in

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Late Monday night a man suspected to be responsible for a fatal car crash turned himself in to police.

Michael Benton was wanted by Colorado Springs Police officers in connection with a deadly crash that happened last Monday in the 1400 block of Nevada Avenue.

Authorities said Benton's car collided with a parked car that then two pedestrians, killing Mark Meschelle and injuring Ken Baker.

Officers said the 32-year-old Benton fled the scene following the crash.

He is being charged with a class 3 felony for the incident.

The Major Accident Unit is continuing to investigate.
