COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said the search is over for 26-year-old Jessica Kuykendall.
Kuykendall was found at the Stetson Hills police substation Tuesday evening, but officers wouldn't elaborate on how she got there.
She was reported missing Monday night after disappearing from her shift at Goodwill near Powers Boulevard and Constitution Avenue.
"We dropped her off at work yesterday as usual, like we do every Monday through Friday. My husband went to pick her up between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and she wasn't there," Janis Kuykendall, her mother, said.
Officers got involved right away because Jessica is developmentally disabled. Her family said she has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old.
"Very vulnerable, wanting to please people, easily persuaded to do things that she otherwise would not do," Janis said.
Employees at Goodwill said Jessica is a hard worker and well-loved.
"It's a surprise to this date from all her peers and so forth that she was missing," Bradd Hafer, Assistant Director of Communications for Goodwill, said.
"She actually had just returned from a vacation not too long ago, and was refreshed and ready to work, so this is a complete surprise to all her peers and coworkers, and her supervisors," Hafer added.
Jessica's family said the experience has been difficult.
"I've never gone to bed at night not knowing where she was," Janis said. "Not knowing if she was safe, if she'd eating, or was warm."
The reunion at the substation was emotional. Her parents said she is fine and having her back is a huge relief.
"All the people that were involved today, the media, we're so thankful that everybody pulled together," Jeff Kuykendall, her father, said. "We're just so very thankful to get her back."
Officers said this is an ongoing investigation, and Jessica's family did not wish to comment on where she was or why she disappeared.
