COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs authorities are at the scene of a multiple shooting that occurred near the Timberlane Apartments early Monday morning.

Police officers confirmed two victims are dead following the shooting, and another two are injured.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. in the 3900 Block of East Bijou Street.

Residents at the Timberlane Apartments said they woke up to gunshots and screaming.

"I was laying in bed this morning and I heard four to five gunshots and I walked outside and I heard lots of screaming, and I saw at least two bodies laying on the ground," Catherine Skrinak, a resident, said.

Officers confirmed two males died in the street.

"We had several RPs call in and indicated that they actually saw someone down on the roadway," Sgt. David Edmondson with the CSPD said.

Officers have not released any information about a suspect(s) and are waiting to release the victims' names until family has been notified.

"At this time we don't have any information on that [a suspect]. This is an active investigation. Investigators are still arriving on scene and trying to determine what went on, witnesses are being interviewed at this time so hopefully we'll have some information fairly quickly on that we just don't have anything to report at this time," Edmondson said.

With a motive behind the shooting being unclear, residents said they are still on edge.

"Police cars just racing towards all these bodies, it was just carnage. I've never seen anything like it in my life," Skrinak said.

She also added she will not be renewing her lease at the apartments.

"I have never seen anything like this in a state in my life. I love Colorado but I am really debating going back to New Jersey where the gun laws are a little bit tamer than here. I don't know what I'm gonna do right now, " she said.

School District 11 schools  in the area were placed on lockdown as police searched the area for suspects. The district lifted the lockdown around noon.
