Original story:
Colorado Springs Fire crews are working to rescue three children suspected of having gone into a manhole in Colorado Springs.
According to firefighters, the children were playing and went into the manhole near Platte Avenue and Murray Boulevard.
Two teams of two are searching the storm drain looking for the kids. Crews will remain on scene until about 1 p.m. or so. They said if the kids aren't found by then, they likely are no longer in the drain.
A Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) employee made the call around 10:35 after seeing the kids playing near the hole.
Officials said the air quality is poor in the drain, and they are concerned about a child's ability to breathe in a closed space.
The pipes run several hundred feet along Platte between Murray and Academy Boulevard. CSU and Colorado Springs Police officers are also assisting with the rescue effort.
