PUEBLO, COLO. -- The Colorado Springs Police Department and the Pueblo Police Department are working together to solve a string of robberies.

The suspect is accused of robbing four banks in eight days, three in Pueblo and one in Colorado Springs.

The latest happened around 10:30 Tuesday morning at the First Bank on West Garden of the Gods Road.

The three other robberies occurred last week at the Sunflower Bank on South Pueblo Boulevard, the ENT Credit Union on West 5th Street, and the Vectra Bank on Highway 50 West.

"We are working with Springs Police right now, and it appears they are going to be one in the same person," Detective Glen Fillmore with the Pueblo P.D. said.

During each robbery, Fillmore said the suspect has worn a hooded sweatshirt, carried a black backpack and handed the teller a threatening note which he has left at every scene.

"I have worked a lot of bank robberies, and they (criminals) never leave the note, and this guy has left his note every single time," Fillmore said.

Fillmore said those notes, along with surveillance pictures, have lead them to a person of interest.

He said they have also established a possible motive.

"To have to hit this many banks right in a row, he is probably fueling a very, very strong drug habit," Fillmore said.

So far the suspect has not used a weapon during any of the robberies, but Fillmore said that does not mean he is not dangerous.

"Right now he has not shown any violent tendencies, but you just do not know what would happen if you cornered him or questioned him," Fillmore said. "So it is always a concern, and you want to make sure you get this individual off the streets."

The suspect is about 5'5" to 5'7" with a thin build.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
