COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs city officials announced Tuesday they have posted city employees' salaries online for the public to see.

Officials said the move was made to help city employees be more transparent with citizens. Salaries had been posted by position in the past, but this is the first time employee salaries have been posted by name.

The average salary for a city employee is $61,984, and the median is $66,369. Of the 2,116 employees, 946 are general fund employees, 1,010 are firefighters or police officers and 160 work in enterprise operations such as the airport, golf courses, cemeteries and Pikes Peak Highway.

According to the list salaries range from around $17,000 to around $184,000.

The lowest paid employees are a Pikes Peak Highway Ranger and a Parking Meter Mechanic, who both make $16,669.37 a year.

Most police officers make around $67,000 a year, and most firefighters make around $61,000.

The list includes all regular and special employees including their last name, first name, job title and annualized salary but does not include Colorado Springs Utilities employees, Memorial Health System employees, elected officials, hourly, temporary or seasonal employees, outside agency temps or contractors.

However that information is also available by request. Colorado Springs city councilmembers make around $6,250 a year, and the mayor makes $96,000.
