FORT CARSON, COLO. (AP) -- A top medical commander at Fort Carson is getting a promotion and a new job.

Col. Jimmie O. Keenan will be promoted to major general in a ceremony Thursday at the post outside Colorado Springs. Keenan's new job will be chief of the Army Nurse Corps.

Col. John M. McGrath will replaced Keenan as commander of the Medical Department Activity at Fort Carson, which includes Evans Army Community Hospital.

McGrath's previous assignment was assistant chief of staff for clinical operations at the Western Regional Medical Command.

Keenan had been commander of the Medical Department Activity since May 2009.
