COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The El Paso County Coroner has ruled the death of a baby who died Wednesday a homicide, the 31st of the year in Colorado Springs.
Elise Mosley, the 8-month-old girl who was allegedly abused by her father, died around 1 a.m. Wednesday after suffering a head injury the day before.
Colorado Springs Police officers arrested her father, 22-year-old Nicholas Smith, for child abuse after the injury but upgraded his charges to first degree murder when Mosley died Wednesday.
The Coroner confirmed the death was indeed a homicide, extending what was already a record number of homicides in the city for a single year.
Smith is set to make a court appearance Wednesday. He's currently in jail without bond.
