COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- So, it's been several weeks, but here comes another winter storm, and it promises to have some huge impacts for the southeast plains of Colorado.

Early Monday morning, a cold front moved through the area bringing colder temperatures, clouds and wind. A stubborn cutoff low was meandering across the four corners and eastern New Mexico. This potent system was producing rain and snow across Texas and New Mexico early Monday morning.

Snow will increase across the Raton Mesa by the morning and then later on the southeast plains. In some cases, the snow will be very heavy and with the winds, widespread blizzard conditions are likely. As of now, travel looks to be difficult to impossible across the southeast plains, including US 50, US 287, US 50, US 40, amongst others. In fact, I would not be surprised to see widespread road closures, which could even include Raton Pass. Total snowfall accumulation could reach two feet or more.

As of Monday morning, Blizzard Warnings have been issued for the plains east of I-25, with exceptions being Trinidad and Aguilar, which will see deteriorating conditions through Monday morning with no improvement thorughout the day. No advisories or warning are in effect for Colorado Springs or Denver.

For Colorado Springs and Pueblo, there will be less snow thanks to downslope winds off the Palmer Divide. However, the afternoon commute could see some blowing snow. It is going to be tough to get more than 2-3 inches in either city. However, once again, travel to the north of Denver may see slightly more snow, but not nearly the impact we'll see for the southeast plains.

For the overnight hours, the storm pulls away a bit. This will bring an end to the snow along the I-25 corridor, but there could be some leftover (light) snow on the plains. Travel east of I-25 will be rough again, if even possible at all.

Expect cold temperatures, but not the arctic blast from earlier this month. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring warmer temperatures before our next system by Thursday. (Thursday, but the way, may see a stronger system in the area, at least for the urban I-25 corridor.)
