CANON CITY, COLO. -- An alcohol-fueled argument leads to a house fire in Canon City over the weekend.

The fire broke out early Sunday morning in the 1600 block of Cedar Avenue on the south side of the city.

When Fremont County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, a husband and wife were standing outside the burning home.

Investigators said the two had been out drinking and had an argument on their way home from a bar.

Once home, the argument escalated and the woman tried to leave the house.

Authorities said the husband blocked her path and told her that she couldn't leave, then he grabbed a propane torch and set fire to the home.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames and the home only suffered minor damage.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Stanford Simmons on charges of first degree arson, reckless endangerment and domestic violence.
