COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- One person is in the hospital with burns to the face and hands after a fire started in a Colorado Springs home Tuesday morning.
Colorado Springs fire officials said the fire was reported around 7:49 a.m. in the 300 block of East Brookside Street in the city.
Crews said smoke and flames were showing when they arrived, but they were able to quickly extinguish the fire after responding within a few minutes.
A 53-year-old man was taken to a local hospital to be treated for burns to the hands and face. CSFD officials said he has since been transferred to the Denver burn. Officials report he's in critical but stable condition.
The couple who lived in the house will be displaced, but officials didn't say how much the damage caused.
Investigators said the man was smoking while on oxygen, which is what started the fire.
