EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested 10 people all believed to be connected to a series of identity theft cases that goes back to the summer and includes 69 victims.

According to deputies, county residents began reporting their mail was being stolen from their mailboxes three months ago. Residents then noticed they had become victims of identity theft when a number of counterfeit checks were passed at a local business.

Deputies and members of the Postal Inspection Service identified 69 victims and were able to arrest 10 men and women.

"This is a fine example of what can be accomplished when local and federal law enforcement agencies work together," El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa said in a statement. "This group was very organized and worked together to commit these crimes.  Fortunately, the combined resources of the Sheriff’s Office and Postal Inspection Service complimented each other in a way that will bring justice to the sixty-nine victims in this case."
