PUEBLO, COLO. (AP) -- The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office is hiring civilians to run security controls of the Pueblo County jail.

Authorities say the civilians will not work outside the control rooms and new hires will not be deputies or receive additional training.

The sheriff's office says it expects to save $200,000 over five years by paying the civilians less money.

The Pueblo Chieftain says 15 people will be hired in January to run the control tower and dormitories, which had 525 prisoners on Friday.
