COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The holiday shopping season is upon us. Black Friday is fewer than two weeks away, which mean retailers will soon offer deep discounts on almost everything in stock.

With that in mind, some experts recommend preparing for the busiest shopping day of the year now.

"I get some ideas of what's out there, what I want to get," Eleanor Wright, a shopper at The Promenade Shops at Briargate, said Sunday.

Shoppers like Wright are already keeping an eye out for Black Friday deals. However, others said the best way to plan for the busy shopping day is to avoid it altogether.

"It can be so stressful, and we all have enough stress in our lives as it is," Donna Maes, a shopper from Pueblo, said. "I'm retired, so I have the option of going out during the week when it's not so crowded."

According to Consumer Reports, four out of every 10 shoppers are concerned about the economy. That has some planning to keep an eye on their wallets instead of sales. The report also found one in three shoppers will cut back on their holiday shopping this year.

Yet, that does not mean Black Friday will be a bust, according to some shoppers.

"I think it's going to be just as crazy as it has been in the past," Wright said. "I work in retail, every year it's crazy, but it can be a lot of fun."

Maes agreed and said even though she will not brave the crowds on Black Friday, many others will.

"Yeah, times are rough," she said. "I think people will keep an eye out on how much they spend, but I do think people will still go out and spend for Christmas. Everyone gets in the Christmas giving spirit this time of year."

While the economy may be on many shoppers' minds, reports show bargain hunters are expected to be out in full force even more so than last year. That is just one of the reasons why experts recommend preparing for the shopping rush now.
