COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The suspect of a domestic dispute-turned-standoff is in police custody.
Colorado Springs Police officers said they arrested 57-year-old Keith Johnson after SWAT fired a flash bang followed by tear gas into the suspect's home.
Early Sunday afternoon, Johnson barricaded himself inside his home on the 1500 block of Canoe Creek Drive, not far from Fort Carson.
The three-hour standoff started after Johnson's wife contacted police following an argument she had with her husband. She told police she was pushed and suffered minor injury from the assault.
When police contacted Johnson, he locked himself inside the home.
Officers blocked off several roads and told residents in the area to stay in their basements or leave the area.
Sgt. Darrin Abbink said negotiators were able to contact Johnson by phone, who said he "had several weapons inside" and was willing to engage in a shootout with police.
Abbink also said the suspect was the only one inside the home at the time of the standoff.
Shortly after tear gas was fired into the home, Johnson surrendered and was arrested.
Johnson will face misdemeanor charges, including third degree assault and failure to leave premises upon request of a police officer.
Abbink said no serious injuries resulted from the incident.
