Springs man allegedly killed Mississippi cop

GRENADA, MISS. -- Police officers in Grenada, Miss. said a Colorado Springs man killed one of their own over the weekend and is now facing capital murder charges.

According to authorities, 20-year-old Kyle Wendt was involved in a high-speed chase with Mississippi officers over the weekend.

Officer John Haddock was putting out spike strips to try to stop Wendt's car when Wendt hit him while driving. Haddock died at the scene on Highway 8 near I-55.

Wendt and 40-year-old Thomas Lee from New Orleans, who was the passenger in the car, were wanted for a church burglary. Both are now facing capital murder, burglary and fleeing charges.

Wendt was also convicted of sexual assault on a child in 2010, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
