Man dies two days after being shot in head

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs Police officers said the man who was shot in the head after a disturbance in the city Monday night died Wednesday morning after being taken off life support.

Officers responded to a shots fired call just after 7 p.m. Monday night in the 5500 block of Bonita Village Road, near Palmer Park Boulevard and Powers Boulevard. Officers found the man had been shot when they arrived. He had been in critical condition at an area hospital since.

His name won't be released until after the autopsy.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death, but if it is ruled a homicide, it will be number 24 in Colorado Springs in 2011.

Officers said the shooting stemmed from a large disturbance and have identified a suspect - Donny Lopez.

Lopez is a 5'6," 175 pound man with tattoos on his neck and face. Officers said they don't have a confirmed car, but he may be driving a white Chevy Camero with t-tops and Colorado plates.

Anyone with information on Lopez's whereabouts is asked to contact police.
