Body of missing hiker found

CHAFFEE COUNTY, COLO. -- The body of a missing hiker has been found, two days after he went missing.

The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office said search and rescue crews located the body of 61-year-old Wayne Kirkbride of Monument Tuesday afternoon on Mount Antero.

Kirkbride set out Sunday afternoon to climb the mountain.

His body was spotted by a helicopter pilot near Cascade Falls.

Authorities said it appears Kirkbride fell down a steep slope.

They said his body is located in rocky terrain and will be recovered Wednesday.

Kirkbride was a retired U.S. Army Special Forces Officer and an experienced hiker.
