COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- Colorado Springs firefighters and utility crews had their hands full Thursday morning after an underground fire started.
Units were sent to the Century Link building, formerly known as Qwest, in the 300 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue around 2:15 a.m.
Fire crews feared they would be dealing with a high rise fire, but they quickly found the source was coming from an underground electrical vault.
Crews had to wait until power to the vault was turned off before they could get a handle on the dangerous situation.
The fire was then quickly put out.
Multiple utility crews have been working with the fire department to determine how the fire started.
Officials continue to investigate the situation, and employees said that they are not being allowed into the building because of the fire.
