CORRALES, N.M. -- The man accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and shooting at her and others in a car in El Paso County has been arrested in New Mexico.

Corrales, N.M. Police officers arrested 28-year-old Handy Tuesday.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies received information that Handy may have been in New Mexico and sent Handy's picture to several law enforcement agencies in the Albuquerque, N.M. area.

A Corrales officer recognized Handy Tuesday evening when he saw Handy pushing a motorcycle into a gas station. Handy attempted to flee before backup arrived but was cornered by officers and a police helicopter a short time later.

Handy allegedly kidnapped his girlfriend after a verbal argument Aug. 10 near Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs.

According to court documents Handy told his girlfriend they were going out east where someone was going to die.

His girlfriend told deputies Handy threatened to kill her several times and punched her in the face. At one point he gave her the gun and told her to either shoot him or herself.

When they got near Marksheffel Boulevard and Constitution Avenue the victim jumped from the car and began running.

According to the documents a second good samaritan, driving a jeep, tried to help by pulling alongside in an attempt to shield their car.

Handy caught up to them and pointed a pistol at the car and fired several shots before fleeing.

A third good samaritan pulled over to help and took the victim, the woman and her two children to a nearby church where they called 911.

Deputies said they found five bullet holes in the suburban.

Handy will be brought back to El Paso County to face four counts of attempted first degree murder, first degree kidnapping and child abuse charges.
