COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- New information has been released on Tuesday's deadly pedestrian crash at the Chapel Hills Mall.

Colorado Springs Police officers were called to the mall around 4 p.m. after two people were hit by an SUV outside of Dillard's.

Originally officers thought it was a hit-and-run crash, but now they think the man and woman were hit by a runaway vehicle.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where the woman later died.

She has been identified as 82-year-old Elinor Granzow.

Her family said she and her husband, 78-year-old Kenneth Granzow, routinely walked the Chapel Hills Mall for exercise.

CSPD said it the accident is bizarre, but not unheard of.

"Usually when we see this, we do not see somebody getting killed," Sgt. Darrin Abbink with CSPD said. "We usually see a car that rolls back and hits a pole, a mailbox, or another car and causes some denting."

But in the this case, Abbink said the unoccupied SUV hit Ken and Elinor Granzow.

He said right now they do not know what is to blame, a mechanical issue, or parking break that was not locked tight.

"We have talked to the owner, and other people who were responsible for the car during the time it was at the mall," Abbink said. "So were are putting that all together with the physical evidence we have."

Sgt. Abbink said investigators are also trying to determine how fast the SUV was traveling.

Meanwhile those who knew Elinor Granzow are remembering a woman who volunteered at four nursing homes, and was actively involved in her church.

"They helped lead our XYZ class, or Extra Years of Zest senior community, and helped with a lot of social functions," the Executive Pastor with Pulpit Rock Church said. "She was the greeter, hugger, lover, and always had a smile."

Elinor was also the mother of four, and a grandmother to eight with two great-grandchildren on the way.

Family and friends said they are not focusing on they way she died, but rather the way she lived.

"She was always loving on people, and that was what she was known for, and we will certainly miss that around here," Tuggle said.

Officers said they still have not completely ruled out the possibility the crash was a hit-and-run.

As for Ken granzow, he was treated for minor injuries and is back at home.

A memorial service for Elinor is scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the student center at Pulpit Rock Church.
